Stunning castings and beautiful design accentuate this lovely, tall centerpiece. The large bowl, with original gilt interior, is bordered with teardrop decoration and mounted with three horned gargoyle masks. The bowl is beautifully engraved twice. One side is 'CJC/ 1868' and the other is 'BJG/ 1904'.

The top of the stem where the bowl screws onto the base is adorned with applied ribbons and oak wreaths.

Three statues of sphinxes with stunning detail flank the column. The creatures are half lion, half female figures sitting on stones. These Greek-style sphinx castings are screwed onto the flat platform of the base which has three applied flowers on the sides.

The domed base is engraved with classical engraving and is elevated with three rectangular feet depicting Egyptian sphinxes against a pebbled background.

This stunning centerpiece is marked underneath with Gorham's trademark and the model number '495'. It measures 12.25 inches wide by 14.75 inches tall, weighs 56.40 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition with light surface scratches to the original gilt interior of the bowl.
