George Shiebler Aesthetic Antique Sterling Silver and 14k Gold Salad Serving Set, NYC, c. 1880's
$0.00
Shiebler produced some of the most unusual and beautiful silver. This salad set is exceptionally rare and an outstanding example of some of the finest serving pieces we have seen by his firm.
Fluidly art nouveau, the handles are deeply and brilliantly hand-chased as rippled water with a lily pad, stems and blossoming flowers applied on top. Twisting stems travel down the length of the handle. The water lily is executed in 14-carat gold. The scene consists of a lily pad with a lily bud and two other flowers of various stages of growth. A stem emerges from the leaf to a large lily flower in full bloom.
The bowl of the spoon has a trident and wave design while the serving fork has an unusual wavy shape to the tines like swirling eddies in a stream with a textured, rippled watery surface. Both the bowls of the spoon and fork have a lustrous gilt surface.
This unique and stunning serving set is marked with Shiebler's trademark 'S' with wings and 'STERLING & 14k/ 261X'. They measure 9.25 inches long, weigh a combined 7.05 troy ounces and are in excellent antique condition.
