This is a wonderful serving piece constructed with multiple parts. The hexagonal rod handle is connected to the blade and ball top with decorative ferules. The round ball at the top is engraved with the initial 'M' and is surmounted with a smaller ball. The shaped blade is stunning with pierced elements incorporated into the lovely engraving.

This magnificent server is marked 'G.S./ STERLING/ PATENT 1866’ and by the Philadelphia retailer 'J.E. CALDWELL & CO.' It measures 12.25 inches long, weighs 5 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in excellent antique condition.

Provenance: From the collection of Dale E. Bennett.
