Frans J. R. Gyllenberg Arts and Crafts Sterling Silver Porringer, Boston, 1923
This wonderful porringer is hand-raised and the bowl displays stunning hammering to both the exterior and interior. Attached to the top rim is a lovely pierced keyhole handle. The handle is engraved on the top 'D/B/K/ JR' and the underside of the bowl is engraved 'FROM W.Q/ DEC. 25 - 1923.'
Gyllenberg, originally from Sweden, is one of only eight silversmiths to be elevated to 'Medalist Craftsman,' the highest honor bestowed by the venerable Society of Arts & Crafts in Boston.
This lovely example of Boston arts & crafts is marked 'FJRG/ STERLING/ 142.' it measures 7.5 inches long across the handle by just over 1.5 inches high, weighs 7.40 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition.
