Extremely Rare American Silver Covered and Footed Fruit Bowl by Eoff & Shepard for Ball, Black & Co., c. late 1850's

This is the first time we have had this exceptional and rare form in American silver. It was made by Eoff and Shepard for Ball, Black & Co. in the rare 950 silver standard that Ball, Black & Co. was using in the late 1850s. The decoration on this covered bowl is outstanding.
Repousséd in the Rococo Revival style, it features c-scrolls interspersed with realistic fruit including melons, pears, peaches, grapes, cherries, and strawberries. The superbly cast finial realistically depicts strawberries that fall from a central stem.  A lovely light yellow gilding covers the interior of the bowl. This wonderful piece measures 10.5 inches high by 10.5 inches in diameter and weighs 48 troy ounces. It is in excellent condition, although one cartouche may have had a monogram removed.
