Ebenezer Knowlton Lakeman. Great name, great cup. He is listed in the Belden book as working from 1818 - 1857 in Salem, Massachusetts. The form is bulbous with a flared-out top. The flared ring foot is a strap which matches the nicely scrolled handle. The front is inscribed 'Elizabeth L. Perkins'. This charming cup is just over 4 inches high by 4 inches wide across the handle, is in great condition and weighs 4.65 ounces.
Although flatware by Lakeman is not uncommon, extant examples of holloware are quite rare, and generally appear to date to his earlier working period. He may have become a jeweler in his later years, no longer practicing the silversmithing trade.
