Durgin Antique Sterling Silver Creamer & Sugar, Concord, NH, c. 1880's

This lovely creamer and sugar set is decorated with stunning aesthetic design. The bodies are beautifully hammered resembling a honeycomb. The surface has a lovely matte finish giving it a soft sheen. The robust borders are repousséd with leaves and blossoms (cherry?). This area is bordered with a notched branch below and a row of fine beading above, in a style highly reminiscent of their 'Bouquet' flatware pattern (see here and here). The swing handle to the sugar bowl has a hand engraved leaf on top. One side is also engraved with a lovely 'MWP' monogram.

This lovely set is marked underneath with Durgin's earlier trademark of a bird within a wreath along with 'STERLING SILVER/ 925/1000/ 45' and by the Hartford, Connecticut retailer 'D.H. BUELL'. The sugar bowl measures 3.5 inches in diameter by 2.5 inches to the top of the bowl. They weigh a combined 9.15 troy ounces and are in very good antique condition with wear to the gilt interiors.
