Dominick & Haff Antique Sterling Silver Figural Candlestick, NYC, NY, 1881

This wonderful candlestick is an amusing design of folk art inspiration. A heart-shaped platform with a crimped, raised edge is elevated with three legs with scrolled ends. A removable, spiral stem with a comical face has an extension with a ring that fits over a rounded sheet that holds a candle with its spring tension. Protruding from this extension is a bird face with a plume, and at the base is a flower. 

This rare candlestick is marked with Dominick & Haff's trademark along with the 1881 date, 'STERLING' and by the New York City retailer 'HOWARD & CO.' It measures 5.5 inches wide by 12.5 inches tall, weighs 23.20 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
