Dominick & Haff (attr.) Antique Sterling Silver Intaglio Chased Aesthetic Movement Bowl, New York City, 1885

A wonderful matte finish creates a lovely lower section of this elegant bowl. Contrasting with the simplicity of the bowl is the exceptional aesthetic movement border. This area, between two, applied, horizontal rings, has a hammered background and naturalistic, chased spreading lily pads. Amongst this wonderful design are two bees, a beetle, and a dragonfly.

The design flows around the bowl originating from a stem above an engraved 'ELK' monogram and an 'April 22, 1885' date.

This lovely bowl is marked underneath by the New York retailer 'THEODORE B. STARR' along with a star and /STERLING/ 392.' It measures 8.25 inches in diameter by 3.25 inches tall, weighs 20.05 troy ounces, and is in very good antique condition with scratching to the gilt interior from normal use.
