This striking water pitcher and accompanying pair of goblets are by the rare and brief partnership of William Gale, H. Blanchard Dominick & Leroy Haff, both previously in the employ of William Gale, Jr., and in 1872, to become Dominick & Haff.
Classically inspired hand-engraving decorates the area on the pitcher above the applied ring base and below the neck. Exceptional castings enhance the dramatic look of the set. The pitcher has two portrait medallions: a male on one side and a female on the opposite. The cast and applied handle incorporates a fully cast head based on Assyrian design to act as the thumb piece.
On the front, the pitcher has a large blank shield with a stunning male bust casting wearing an exotic bird headdress.
The pair of goblets are also unusual and stunning. Applied medallions, one of a male and the other a female are applied on one side of each goblet, and blank ovals are applied on the other. The plain, stepped pedestal bases are connected to the wonderful stems with cast busts also styled after Assyrian heads.

The goblets are marked '925 STERLING/ 27' and measure 3.25 inches wide by 6 inches tall. The pitcher is marked 'GALE, DOMINICK & HAFF, which was scratched out then overstruck by the NYC retailer 'Covell, GRAY & CO' along with '925 STERLING/ 27/ NEW YORK. It measures 7.5 inches wide by just under 13 inches high.
The set weighs a combined 54.50 troy ounces, is in excellent antique condition and appears to have never been monogrammed.
