Chinese Export Silver Place Card Holders, early 20th century, set of 12
This is a wonderful and complete set of card holders which can be used for place cards at a table setting or menu cards at the table or buffet. The intriguing shapes are Chinese symbols. I have been able to identify six of the twelve as symbols representing good luck, peace, hope, happiness, luck and friendship. The fronts are decorated with a textured surface sporadically incorporating small flowers.
The holders have an attached easel backing and two vertical posts to tuck your cards in. They obviously vary in shapes and sizes but average around 2 inches high.
The holders are marked on the inside of their stands with Chinese maker's marks we have been unable to identify. The set is in lovely antique condition.
