Farrington & Hunnewell/ Bigelow Bros and Kennard Antique Sterling Silver Pancake Server, Boston, MA, c. 1870

This lovely pancake (also referred to as buckwheat cakes) server is beautifully engine turned and engraved on the handle around a shield engraved with Gothic lettering 'F McG' monogram. The shaped blade is also wonderfully engraved with wheel work.

The 925 in an oval mark was used by Farrington & Hunnewell, flatware makers in Boston.  Bigelow Brothers & Kennard sold this rare server. This great firm, a rival to Shreve, Crump & Low, was the other great jeweler in Boston.

This lovely server is marked 'BIGELOW BROS & KENNARD/ 925.' It measures shy of 8.75 inches long, weighs 2.40 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition.
