Arthur Stone Sterling Silver Decorated Swing-handled Sugar Basket, c. 1912

Notify me when similar is available:

This wonderful sugar basket is oval boat-shaped on an oval pedestal stepped base. An applied band around the rim and beautiful hammering decorate the body. The shaped handle has delicately chased flower stems up the sides. They intertwine at the top, where it has also been hand-pierced to form a blossoming floral design, similar to Stone's 'Coneflower' pattern.

This lovely sterling silver sugar basket is marked underneath with Stone's trademark and 'STERLING/ H'. The 'H' designates the piece having been raised by Arthur Hartwell who achieved Master Craftsman status at the Society of Arts & Crafts in Boston. The piercing and chasing were done by Stone himself. It measures 5 inches long by 3.75 inches wide by 4.75 inches to the top of the handle, weighs 5.25 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition.
