Arthur Stone Arts & Crafts Sterling Silver Pierced Dish, Gardner, MA, c. 1910-37

Notify me when similar is available:

Celtic knots are traditionally symbolic of the cycle of life, and variations of these devices can be found in Stone's work. Produced entirely by hand, this small plate has a raised side and a wide border with a rolled edge. Chased decoration with pierced knots traveling around the border creates an infinite loop.

Provenance: Private Collection.

This lovely piece is marked underneath with Stone's mark and 'STERLING/ H.' The 'H' denotes work by Arthur Hartwell, who achieved Master Craftsman status within the Society of Arts & Crafts, Boston. The plate measures 7 inches in diameter, weighs 6.7 troy ounces, has never been engraved, and is in very good antique condition with light wear to the center.
