Arthur Stone Associates Arts and Crafts Sterling Ice Tongs, Gardner, MA, c. 1937
$0.00
These elegant ice tongs are all done by hand with a wonderful, clean hammered surface one expects from Stone's shop. Made from a single piece of heavy gauge silver, the tongs have handles that taper to the shaped bowls with cut teeth to grip the ice.
These tongs were hand raised by specialist 'spoonmaker' Charles Brown, a master in his own right and a recipient of a bronze medal for his craftsmanship from the Boston Society of Arts and Crafts - one of only eight silversmiths to receive this prestigious award, the highest honor bestowed by the society.
These extremely rare ice tongs are marked on the back with the Stone Associates shop mark, 'STERLING", and with the sideways 'B' for Charles Brown. Brown worked for Stone from 1912-37, and Stone Associates started in 1937, so these tongs would date close to 1937. They measure 6.75 inches long, weigh 3.20 troy ounces, have never been monogrammed and are in excellent condition.
