Arthur Stone Arts & Crafts Sterling Silver 'Fluted' Water Pitcher, Gardner, MA, 1908-37
$0.00
This striking pitcher is a beautiful example of great arts & crafts silver. Lovely proportions and graceful shapes accentuate its beauty. The bulbous body is decorated with convex fluting, which would have required exceptional skill to execute.
Other decorative elements include a bold handle with a thumb-piece, an applied band around the rim, and a circular, stepped pedestal base. The lovely hammering, for which items from Stone's shop are so famous, creates a beautiful surface.
This outstanding pitcher is marked underneath with Stone's trademark and 'STERLING/ T.' The 'T' denotes work by Herbert A. Taylor, who achieved the highest level of Medalist status within the Society of Arts & Crafts, Boston. The pitcher measures just shy of 9.5 inches tall to the top of the thumb-piece. It weighs 31.90 troy ounces, has never been engraved or monogrammed, and is in excellent condition.
