Wood and Hughes Sterling Silver Medallion Gravy Ladle, NYC, NY, c. late 1860s

Made from multiple parts, this stunning ladle features a 3-d female portrait medallion against a stippled background. This oval display is flanked with three ball decorations and the reverse is engraved with a lovely 'AEM' monogram. The curved handle is decorated below the medallion with pierced, classical design. A shaped, fluted bowl is lightly gilt and has a matte finish on its exterior.

This magnificent ladle is marked 'W&H/ STERLING.' It measures 9.25 inches long, weighs 3.30 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
