J.E. Caldwell Antique Sterling Silver Swan Candlesticks, Philadelphia, PA, c. 1865

Elegant swans executed with beautiful details are attached to shallow, reflective dishes as if they were on a tranquil pond. Their spread wings rise up to hold the leaf-formed socles. Classical, scroll elements decorate the outer rims of the removable bobeche. The oval bases have pierced grates around the sides and extended handles with classical foliate decoration.

These rare candlesticks are marked 'J.E CALDWELL & CO/ PHILADELPHIA/ STERLING SILVER' and one of them also has an inventory number '86.3.8.' They measure 7.75 inches long by 3.25 inches wide by 5.25 inches high, weigh a combined 29.95 troy ounces, have never been monogrammed and are in excellent antique condition.
