Gorham Antique Copper and Applied Silver Soap Box, Providence, RI, 1881

Oval-shaped, this hinged, small box was originally intended for soap. It is hammered and deep brown in color. Silver appliques of a Japanese figure and a frog on a stump stare at each other under a crescent moon. 

Engraved on the underside is a 'DLH' monogram and the date '1882.'

This lovely soap box is marked underneath with the anchor mark used on copper wares and 'GORHAM & CO/ 11/ N.' It measures 3.25 inches long by 2.5 inches wide by 1.74 inches high and is in very good antique condition with some even wear to the surface and a couple of dings.
