Gorham Antique Coin Silver Child's Cup, Providence, RI, c. 1865

This is a lovely child's cup and early example of Gorham coin silver. The cast and applied handle has a beautiful leaf thumb-piece, and the base has an applied decorative band. The body is repousséd with beautiful hanging foliage underneath the plain band around the top. Meandering branches with leaves and flowers emanate from the cartouche on the front. This gorgeous work is enhanced by the stippled background. The cartouche is engraved 'CDC.' 

This beautiful cup is marked underneath with Gorham's trademark and the model '523' and engraved with a later date of 1877. It measures 4 inches across the body and handle by 4 inches to the top of the handle, weighs 5.35 troy ounces and is in very good/ excellent condition.
