Gorham 'Angelo' Pattern Antique Sterling Silver Cake Knife, Providence, RI, c. 1870

This beautiful server features a hollow handle with engraved decoration on a matte finished background. The end of the handle is engraved with the family name 'Stafford'. The attached blade has a boldly serrated top edge. Chased and bright-cut engraved designs decorate the blade on one side.

Gorham's Angelo pattern is rare and wonderful. A fine example of Gorham's early aesthetic movement reform designs, it is the only pattern of the period with hollow handles throughout the line. Rarely seen on the market today, it was the flatware component of Gorham's most important service - the 740+ piece Furber Service (see Silver in America and Gorham Silver for more information).

This stunning serving piece measures 10.25 inches long. It is marked with Gorham's trademark and 'Sterling'. Weighing 2.4 troy ounces, it is in excellent condition.
