Mauser Manufacturing Company Sterling Silver Aesthetic Movement Punch Bowl with Stand, c. 1898

It is rare to find a punch bowl with its original stand.  Both of these are of exceptional quality and design.  A band of naturalistic pine branches with bunches of pine cones border the undulating edge of the rim, pedestal foot, and stand.

This naturalistic, applied ornament is striking against the plain, shimmering surfaces.  The bowl is wonderfully monogrammed and dated 'RHH/ Dec. 2nd 1898' and the stand is engraved 'RHH' in a lovely cursive style.

The Mauser Manufacturing Company was from New York and is known for its high-quality art nouveau sterling and elegant designs.  In 1903 they merged with other companies to form the Mount Vernon Company Silversmiths which was purchased a decade later by Gorham. This stunning bowl is marked with Mauser's trademark, 'STERLING', the model number '2908' and 'DUHME'.  The undertray bears the same marks with a different number '2757'.  Duhme was a famous Cincinnati, Ohio silver manufacturer and retailer whose fine quality product earned it the moniker 'The Tiffany of Cincinnati'.  The bowl measures 8.25 inches high by 14.25 inches round.  The stand measures 15 inches round.  They have a combined weight of 116.80 troy ounces and are in very good antique condition with surface scratches to the undertray and slight dimples to the silver from normal use.
