This is a rare claret jug with stunning glass and decorative sterling mounts. The cover is a beautiful repoussé dome with a pointed top with a ball. The top is hinged on the back and has a thumb piece in the shape of a leaf. The collar, which is attached to the glass, is of lovely floral decoration which matches the cover.

The glass is hand blown and cut in a rock crystal style. It has a deeply cut star burst design underneath. Traveling around the base of the bulbous body are aesthetic foliate designs. The section above is a display of three birds in various poses standing on branches with flowers.

This stunning claret jug/ decanter is marked with Gorham's trademark along with 'STERLING' and the date mark symbol for 1886. It measures 5.25 inches wide by 8.5 inches high and is in excellent antique condition.
