Tiffany & Co. Pair of Antique Sterling Silver Mounted Cut Glass Decanters or 'Claret Jugs', NYC, c. 1894

Traditionally known as 'claret jugs,' these decanters are exquisite. Clear crystal bodies are hand cut with deep designs of diamonds around the necks and vertical fern leaves around the bulbous bodies. Enhancing the elegance are wonderfully cast and mounted silver floral strap-work around the tops of the necks and midsections. Engraved on the cartouche are script 'HBL' initials. The plain silver handles, attached domed lids, thumb pieces, and ball finials complete the lovely design.

Of exceptional quality, they are stamped underneath the lids 'TIFFANY & CO/ STERLING/12132/6339/ T'. The 'T' mark was used from 1891-1902, and according to Tiffany Silver by Charles Carpenter, the pattern number 12132 would date the design to 1894. They measure 9.75 inches high and are in excellent condition.
