Tiffany & Co Antique Sterling Silver Figural Garniture Suite, New York City, 1870-75

This spectacular garniture suite is of striking quality and design. It is constructed of numerous castings assembled together to create these objects of beauty.

The matching pair of compotes have shallow bowls with the only decoration being a simple band of Moorish design around its upper rim. The plain bowls enhance the look of the highly decorative bases.

The circular platform bases have three round extensions. These extensions are cascading feet which raise the platform up off the table.

Attached to the tops of the feet are exceptionally cast curved columns. The lower sections of the columns are animal feet with claw talons conveying strength. The upper sections are beautifully detailed masks of goddesses.

A central urn rises up from the center of the platform. It, along with the columns, are attached to the platform using bolts and screws which one sees underneath. Not only is the urn highly decorative, it helps to strengthen the piece with classical scrolling foliate decorations attched to it and the surrounding columns.

The large centerpiece is practically identical, but on a much grander scale. The intricate design, bold castings and details are stunning. The bowl to this centerpiece actually unscrews from the midsection for cleaning when needed

It is quite rare to find an original garniture suite still together and it sets a stunning table or sideboard.

A rare and unusual feature is the multi-functional design. The bowls are removable from their stands. With the bowls removed, the central urns for the side dishes can be used to hold candles while the larger urn can hold a display of flowers. The side dishes can be used as stand-alone serving dishes.

This magnificent table suite is marked underneath 'TIFFANY & CO/ QUALITY STERLING/ UNION SQUARE' and with John Chandler Moore's small 'm' stamped twice. The compotes are further stamped with their model numbers '2374/ 5609' and the centerpiece is stamped '2368/ 5956'.

The compotes measure 8 inches in diameter by just under 8 inches high. The centerpiece measures 11 inches in diameter by 13.75 inches high. They have an impressive total weight of 106.45 troy ounces and are in very good antique condition. Some of the original screws underneath have been replaced.
