This beautiful salt set consists of a pair of master salts with spoons in an original fitted box. The bodies of the salts have wonderful honeycomb hammering with a soft, matte finish with applied handles. Four amorphic scenes on each salt have uniquely textured backgrounds with copper appliques, including branches, a butterfly, birds, and a salamander. The spoons have hammered front handles, one with a copper-applied twig and the other with a brass branch with berries.
The spoons are marked 'D&H/ STERLING, and the salts are marked 'STERLING/ 304' with the Dominick and Haff trademark with the date 1880. The salts measure just over 2.75 inches across the handles by 1.25 inches tall. The set has a combined weight of 4.20 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
The original, red satin-lined box is stamped by the great retailer 'J.E. CALDWELL/ PHILADELPHIA.'
