Pair of Antique Sheffield Silver Plate Magnum Size Wine Coasters, c. 1790

These wine coasters are exceptional examples of early antique Sheffield silver plate. Not only is the size extremely rare, but the decoration and condition are wonderful. The sides are beautifully decorated with hand-pierced and engraved paterae from which bright cut garlands drape around the body. One of the paterae on each coaster is solid and has never been monogrammed.

Near the rim and base are two rows of intricate engraved and pierced paterae and leaves. The interior base is fitted with the original turned mahogany inserts.

These stunning coasters measure 7.75 inches round by 2.5 inches high and are in very good antique condition with minor rosing. There is a small area of restoration to one wood base underneath.
