Durgin (attr) Antique Sterling Cattail Design Ice Cream Slice, Concord, NH, c. 1880

This fantastic server is designed with a naturalistic cattail as the handle, which is engraved with a Gothic 'W' initial. A simple wire stem curves around the base of the handle, terminating in a lily pad which conceals the connection of the handle to the blade.

The large blade is formed and engraved as a large leaf with a back, rippled, raised edge. The leaf appears to peel back, revealing an oval, arctic scene of a sailing ship at sea amongst icebergs.

This wonderful server is marked "STERLING." It measures just over 12.5 inches long, weighs 4.10 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition.
