Whiting Antique Sterling Silver Shell Dish, Attleboro, MA, c. 1871

This cute dish is raised on a simple, oval pedestal base. The shallow bowl is scalloped and was most likely used for sweetmeats. It has a matte finish with a gilt surface. The handle has an elaborately engraved 'EM' monogram and dated 'April 27th, 1871'.

This lovely dish is marked with Whiting's trademark and 'STERLING/ 160'. It measures 7 inches long by 4 inches wide by 1.25 inches high, weighs 4.50 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition with light wear to the gilding.
