This is a stunning oval tray. The frame is executed in Kirk's famous repoussé design of 3-dimensional flowers and foliage against a stippled background. The top and bottom edge has applied laurel leaf banding.

Applied handles are decorated with the same motifs and the underside is engraved with the initial 'F'.

The interior is a wonderful glass insert designed with a cut starburst in the middle. It is original to the piece which is extremely rare. The glass has a sterling collar to protect its edge and is removable for easy cleaning. There are four bun feet which screw off to release the interior glass.

According to Samuel Kirk & Son Co, Baltimore, Md. (published by Michael Merrill, Inc. in 1974), this tray is pictured in plate number 7 and identified as a salver for a 'Black Coffee Service'.

This wonderful tray is marked underneath 'S. KIRK & SON Inc/ 925/1000/ 1220'. It measures 23.25 inches across the handles by 14.5 inches wide by 1.75 inches high. It is in excellent antique condition with a couple minor scratches to the glass.
