With exceptional quality, design, and imagination, Whiting has created a wonderful work of art. This rare bowl, with an original gilt interior, has three horizontal sections separated by applied thick silver wires. The bottom section is an applied, splayed foot with a die-rolled repeating aesthetic design. The other two areas which form the gracefully splayed body are a stunning display of exotic design enhanced with exceptional partial gilding. Various japanesque scenes of foliage, birds, butterflies, fruit, etc., pop against the soft matte finish background.

Most likely, this bowl was designed by Charles Osborne.

This rare salad or centerpiece bowl is marked underneath with Whiting's trademark and "STERLING/ 666/ J". It measures just over 4 inches high by 9 inches round at the top. It weighs 27.20 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed, and is in excellent antique condition.
