Tiffany and Co Antique Sterling Silver Japanese Pattern Berry Scoop, NYC, 1871-75

This is a large and stunning serving scoop. The 'Japanese' pattern was first patented in 1871 and showed American's growing interest in Japan and the exotic.

An exotic scene of a bird perched amongst foliage is featured at the top of the handle. The reverse of the handle has a foliate scene along with an 'ML' monogram. The large bowl with a ruffled edge is gilt on both sides.  

This stunning server is marked 'TIFFANY & Co/ STERLING/ PAT 1871'. It measures 9.5 inches long, weighs 3.15 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
