Gorham 'Raphael' Antique Sterling Silver Flat Server, Providence, RI, c. lte 1870s

Scrolling foliage around a small bird underneath a heart-shaped shield, monogrammed 'MJCW,' create this beautiful Renaissance-inspired pattern. The lower half of the handle is decorated with small ivy. Complimentary hand-engraving decorates the shoulders and the perimeter of the flat, lightly gilt blade with curved sides.

This lovely server is marked with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING/ PATENT 1874.' It measures 10.25 inches long, weighs 3.40 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition with slight wear to the highlights.
