With a wonderfully hammered surface and rich, red patina, this lovely piece of copper is a rare example of the Japanesque influence in design from 1883 by the Gorham.
Visually striking against the copper background are the silver appliques which include a dragon, a figure of a man and woman, a fan, and three medallions. This lovely object was originally a kerosene lamp. Over the years it has become separated from its fittings and shade.
This wonderful object can be used as a vase or just admired for its artistry. It retains more of the original cherry red patina than is typically seen today.
This wonderful piece is marked with Gorham's copper mark along with 'GORHAM CO/ Y98/ P.' It measures 6.5 inches wide by 6.25 inches tall and is in very good/ excellent condition.
