Gorham 'H22' Pattern Antique Sterling Silver Terrapin Fork, Providence, RI, c. 1880

Notify me when similar is available:

Terrapin forks are quite rare and distinguished by their uniquely shaped bowls with tiny tines. Gorham used the 'H' pattern designation for special limited-production flatware items not made in full-line patterns. This lovely fork/ spoon has a small turtle climbing out of a shell-shaped bowl, presumably following the large turtle at the top. Along the handle is a nice display of seaweed. The reverse of the handle displays the seaweed motifs along with a lovely shell at the top.

Provenance: Private Collection.

This beautiful fork is marked with Gorham's trademark 'STERLING' and the great Philadelphia retailer 'J.E. Caldwell.' It measures just over 6 inches long, weighs 1.30 troy ounces, and is in very good/excellent condition.
