Gorham Antique Sterling Silver Olive Dish with Original Tongs, Providence, RI, 1892

Notify me when similar is available:

This rare dish is in the form of a giant hollow olive with its textured, dimpled surface. The handle is in the form of large leaves and a branch attached to the body of the piece. Together with this rare dish is the rare olive tongs which were originally sold with the piece.

It is extremely uncommon to find these two pieces still together. The tongs are in the form of the olive branch with cast and applied gilded leaves and olives. The textured surface at the elbow of the tongs matches the body of the olive dish.

Both the dish and tongs are stamped with Gorham's trademark, 'STERLING' , the date mark of 1892 and the model number '515'. The unusual dish measures 5.75 inches long and the tongs measure 5 inches long. They are in very good condition with noticeable wear to the original gilded interior of the dish and fairly even wear to the gilded olives on the tongs.
