Gorham Antique Sterling Silver 'Hizen' Pattern Preserve Spoon, Providence, RI, c. 1880

Notify me when similar is available:

One of the most magnificent flatware designs ever created was 'Hizen,' named after an old Japanese province. This imaginative design features three-dimensional, exotic lily pads traveling up the handle against a hammered background. A crab is amongst the foliage. The bowl is realistically formed as a clamshell with stunning details.

Provenance: Private collection.

This beautiful spoon is marked on the back with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING'. It measures 6.5 inches long and weighs 1.35 troy ounces. It is in excellent antique condition with wear to the original gilding in the bowl.
