Gorham Antique Sterling Silver 'Gingko' Serving Spoon, c. 1880

This rare serving spoon is delightful. The Japonesque design is quite rare; the flat handle has a quarter turn sideways, so the handle is vertical while the bowl is horizontal. Along the handle on one side is a section of spot hammering above 2 sets of chased lines which continue around the handle.  Opposite the hammered side of the handle is a plain section above the line decoration (space for a monogram).  The wonderful bowl is shaped like a Gingko leaf with a little bright cut decoration, a matte finish, and gilding.

The back is stamped with Gorham's trademark, 'STERLING' and 'I54'.This rare server measures 8.75 inches long, weighs 2.7 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in very good antique condition (light, but even, wear to the gilding).
