Gorham Antique Sterling Silver Figural Squirrel Nut Picks, Providence, RI, set of 10, c. 1870

These are the nicest and largest figural nut picks we have ever had. The stems of the picks are made from thick gauge silver and are designed to resemble tree branches with a horizontal piece which acts as a thumb-piece. The pick blade is curved and tapers to a point. It is engraved on its surface 'DNC'.

The top of the stem is designed with two spreading branches with the full figure of a squirrel balancing atop while eating a nut. The squirrel, with its long, curved tail, has wonderful detail.

This extraordinary design incorporates whimsy into a stunning and useful object. They can be used for their original purpose or for serving cubed fruits, cheeses, etc.

These rare picks are marked with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING'. They measure 6.25 inches long, have a total weight of 17.10 troy ounces and are in excellent antique condition.
