Whiting (attr) Cattail Design Antique Sterling Silver Sauce Ladle, c. 1865

This beautiful ladle is made from multiple pieces. The decorative top of the handle has an uncommon early aesthetic cattail design above a bar with three applied round balls. A curved handle is made from a heavy gauge sterling wire. Below the circular join at the base of the handle are three wires which are attached to the unusual bowl. Referred to as helmut-shaped bowls for their appearance when held upside-down, this lovely bowl has a flaring pouring spout and is also decorated on the back with the mask of classical maiden.

This wonderful antique ladle is marked 'STERLING. It measures 8 inches long, weighs 1.80 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in very good condition with light wear to the original gilding.
