Gorham ‘Josephine’ Pattern Antique Coin Silver Pie Server, 1855-67

Notify me when similar is available:

‘Josephine‘ is a lovely pattern which features a reeded edge and an acanthus leaf at the top. The Smithsonian has a spoon in this pattern with the initials ‘MTL’ which belonged to Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln’ (see Gorham Silver, p. 48). This server is engraved on the back of the handle 'MEL.' The shaped, blade with raised sides is beautifully engraved with a central scene of men. One is carrying a bucket, and the other is riding a horse.

Another interesting fact about this pattern is that it is the only pattern John Gorham designed and patented himself.

This wonderful coin silver server is marked on the back ‘COIN/ PATENT 1855’. It measures 9.25 inches long, weighs 2.40 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in very good antique condition.
