Gorham Antique Sterling and Other Metals Japanesque Ice Cream Hatchet, Providence, RI, c. 1880

This wonderful server features a hammered handle with an applied, copper japanesque figure holding a fan in one hand and a parasol (wagasa) in the other. Various exotic engraving, including flora, bamboo, a bird, and two butterflies, decorate the shaped blade. An 'EJS' monogram is engraved on the back.

This beautiful server is marked with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING & OTHER METALS.' It measures 10 inches long, weighs 4.60 troy ounces, and is in very good antique condition with light scratches and wear to the original gilding.
