This lovely cheese scoop is in a rare design by Frank Smith. The pattern has turned outer edges with an interior of densely displayed flowers and a couple of scroll devices. The back of the handle is engraved 'LWN.'

Frank Smith of Gardner, MA made some very fine silver in the early days of the firm. Before opening his own shop, Arthur Stone, the famous arts & crafts silversmith, was the shop foreman there. Some of their pieces in the "Georgian" pattern were retailed by Tiffany & Co. around the turn of the century. Other pieces were sold by very fine retail firms including Howard & Co. of New York City.

This wonderful scoop is marked with Frank Smith's trademark and 'STERLING.' It measures just over 8 inches long, weighs 2 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition with light surface scratches and wear to the gilding.
