Arthur Stone Sterling Silver 'Owl' Letter Opener, Gardner, MA, c. 1920

This unusual arts & crafts sterling letter opener from the shop of Arthur Stone features a beautifully pierced and chased handle creating a lovely scene of an owl perched on a tree branch.

This rare letter opener is marked with Stone's trademark along with 'STERLING' and the 'B' for Charles W. Brown, a spoonmaker working from 1912-37. (Brown was only one of seven silversmiths who received the designation of 'Medalist' from the Society of Arts & Crafts in Boston – it's highest award). It measures 7 inches long, weighs 1.45 troy ounces and is in excellent condition.
