This sugar basket is large enough to act as a stunning, covered candy dish...or sugar bowl! A swing handle has applied graduated ball design and classical ornament. The body is raised on four figural feet and is repousséd with floral garlands. The domed cover has a decorative finial, and the edge is engraved 'ELP(?)/ From Mrs. Hurd, 1858.'

This lovely container is marked with Gorham's trademarks and "COIN/ 40/ 3." It measures 5.75 inches in diameter by 4 inches high to the rim, weighs 15.40 troy ounces, and is in very good antique condition with slight wear to the original gilding and a slight bend in the finial.
