Farr and Bro. Antique Coin SIlver Macaroni Server, Philadelphia, PA, c. 1860

Macaroni servers were never common, and they are not seen often on the market today. While we think of macaroni as elbow-shaped today, these are better thought of as pasta servers during the period.  As then, they would work well for many things that need straining.  The toothed edged bowl is scalloped, and the original gilding is in very good condition.

The handle is decorated with an engine turned and hand engraved design.  The shield in the middle is monogrammed with a 'D.'

William M. & George W Farr located at 324 Chestnut St.were jewelers and this piece was likely made by a highly skilled Philadelphia maker such as Peter Krider, who made patterns like this and used a similar "COIN" mark.

This rare server is marked "COIN" and "FARR & BRO."  It measures 10 inches long, weighs 3.6 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
