Great examples of American Art Deco silver are quite scarce, and this compote is a rare and striking example of modern silver. Various design elements create a bold display. These include a circular, stepped base, a vertical, concave fluted stem connected to a convex sphere, and a fluted dish. The dish's tapered panels with v-cut flutes create a floriform impression. These architectural elements work well together, and the reflective surfaces create an elegant beauty.
Hayes & McFarland was part of the Mt. Vernon Silversmiths, Inc., which the Gorham Manufacturing Company owned.
