Arthur Stone Associates Arts & Crafts Sterling Silver 'Fluted' Water Pitcher, c. 1930's

This striking pitcher is a wonderful example of great arts & crafts silver. Lovely proportions and graceful shapes accentuate its beauty. The bulbous body is decorated with convex fluting which would have required exceptional skill to execute.

Other decorative elements include a bold handle with thumb-piece, an applied band around the rim and a circular, stepped pedestal base. Lovely hammering for which items from Stone's shop are so famous creates a beautiful surface.

This wonderful pitcher is marked underneath with the Stone Associates mark used starting in 1937. It is also marked 'STERLING/ H'. The 'H' denotes work by Arthur Hartwell who achieved Master Craftsman status within the Society of Arts & Crafts, Boston. The pitcher measures 9.75 inches tall to the top of the thumbpiece. It weighs 30.50 troy ounces, has never been engraved and is in excellent condition.
