Arthur Stone Silver Arts & Crafts Porringer, 1909-32

Notify me when similar is available:

This large sterling silver porringer was hand-raised by either David Carlson (1909-19) or Magnus Carlberg (1922-32), both of whom marked their silver with a 'C.'

A lot of great American handmade arts & crafts silver is based on colonial forms designed with a modern interpretation. The large, circular bowl has a bulbous side, and the exterior exhibits a soft, hammered surface. The whimsical handle is hand-pierced and hand-chased to displays a wonderful scene of two squirrels eating nuts below a wreath device with chased oak leaves. This unusual handle and hammered surface give the piece a modern feel.

This beautiful sterling silver porringer is marked underneath with Stone's trademark along with 'STERLING/ C.' This trademark was used from 1910-37. The bowl measures 5 inches round by 1.75 inches high. The handle is just over 2.25 inches long. This lovely example of Arthur Stone silver weighs 10.15 troy ounces and is in good antique condition with light wear.
