Tiffany & Co - The Andy Warhol 'Special Hand Work' Art Deco Sterling Silver Vase, c. 1934

Notify me when similar is available:

In order to compete with the arts & crafts silver movement which gained popularity in the early 20th century, Tiffany & Co produced a beautiful line of hand -raised silver called 'Special Handwork'. Pieces are quite rare and usually of exceptional weight and quality.

This vase is tall and impressive. The circular domed foot has subtle shaping to the hammered surface. A strong architectural art deco design surrounds the base of the body. Rising upwards is a stunning tapered body which flares outwards at the top. Incorporated into the design are wide panels and a hammered surface which makes the piece sparkle.

Andy Warhol needs little introduction as the most important American artist of the mid-20th century. His collections were diverse and testimony to the wide range of his taste and exceptional eye.
